Robotics qualifies for state competition

The Hybrid Hornets qualified for state competition by placing eighth at Marysville from Thursday, April 6, to Saturday, April 8.

This was the second FIRST competition of the season.

FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. The organization offers competitions nationwide.

Kearsley also won the Quality Award sponsored by the Motorola Solutions Foundation.

The Hybrid Hornets were 8-9-0 and were chosen for the No. 5-seeded alliance.

They won 2-1 in the quarterfinals against the No. 4-seeded alliance.

However, the team was swept 2-0 in the semifinals by the No. 1-seeded alliance.

The Hybrid Hornets also held an offensive power rating of 104.96.

The state competition will be held at Saginaw State Valley University, starting Thursday, April 13, and ending Saturday, April 15.

Adviser’s Note — This story has been updated. The Eclipse incorrectly reported the Hybrid Hornets placed 58th when, in fact, they ranked eighth.
