The girls and boys track teams ran at Saginaw Valley State University on Wednesday, March 22, in a non-scoring meet.

Boys

Senior Darrion Younger and junior Taveon Harris led the Hornets at SVSU’s indoor track.

Younger placed fifth and Harris finished eighth in the 200-meter dash, running 23.14 and 23.43, respectively.

Harris also placed third in the 60. His time was 7.25.

Harris said he is constantly trying to improve his times.

“I pushed myself and that was the outcome,” he said.

In the 400, Younger took third place, running it in 50.77.

Kearsley ran to third place in the 1200 relay. The relay team, consisting of Griffin, Harris, Tommy Plunkey, and Younger, ended its race in 2:27.33.

Younger tore an achilles last year, and is glad to run with his team again.

“It feels good to be back,” Younger said. “We ran pretty well. We’ll get better as the season goes on.”

In shot put, sophomore Eddie Harris threw 43 feet, 9 1/4 inches, which was good enough for 10th place.

Girls

The Hornets were led by senior Ave’r McKay in the first meet of the season.

In the 400, McKay placed fourth in 1:00.94.

She also placed seventh in the 200, racing it in 26.92.

In the shot put, sophomore Mackenzie Ramey threw 30-05, placing 17th.

The best relay performance for the Hornets was the 2400-relay team, consisting of Amelia Boggs, Stacia Tipton, Emma Bishoff, and Savannah Jones. The team ran 7:59.48, finishing in 17th.
