Senior Kayla Emmendorfer will be taking her talents out of state after graduation.

Arkansas State University offered a bowling scholarship to Emmendorfer and she accepted the offer.

Emmendorfer signed her National Letter of Intent with ASU on Nov. 13. She committed to the university in the media center at 2:30 p.m.

In her junior year, Emmendorfer averaged 208 per game and led the Hornets to the 2014 state championship, bowling a 233 in the final. She also finished third in the individual state tournament.

“She’s been our lead-off bowler on a couple state championship teams and was selected as the Flint Area Bowler of the Year,” Mr. Paul Guadard, athletics director, said. “We’re really expecting big things from her.”

ASU, which is in Jonesboro, Ark., finished fifth in the NCAA tournament last year. This season, the Red Wolves have competed in three tournaments to date, finishing in third-, second-, and fourth-places, respectively.

During the ceremony, Emmendorfer gave her appreciation to her coaches, friends, and family. The room was full of joyful tears.

“I just want to thank everyone for coming,” Emmendorfer said, “and it means a lot.”

Emmendorfer went on to thank her friends and family.

“I’m going to miss you guys a lot when I leave,” Emmendorfer stated, “but, you know, I love you guys so much. You all mean a lot, and my family, you’ve always been there for me and encouraged me.”
