Sophomore Ariel Desjardins shows off her level-two license.

Taking driver’s training, practicing on the back roads, and dealing with back seat drivers are all the things we had to go through to obtain our driver’s license.

Ariel Desjardins, sophomore, got her license the day she turned 16.

“During the beginning of June, freshman year, I had to take segment one of driver’s training,” Desjardins said. “Segment one was three weeks and everyday after school.”

At the end of segment one at Davison’s driver’s training, A Careful Turn, Desjardins had to pass the written test in order to get her permit.

After three months of driving with a permit and obtaining 30 hours, Desjardins was able to take segment two.

“Segment two was three days,” Desjardins said. “Then I took a test to get my segment-two permit.”

Going through driver’s training can be a trying experience. Desjardins had the most difficult time getting past her nerves.

“I was always so nervous when I would drive with a new instructor and when I went to take my road test,” Desjardins said.

After getting past the nerves and training, Desjardins said getting her license gives her, like most teens who drive, a sense freedom.

Junior Lilly Stoutenburg presents her level-two license. She received her license in July 2016.

“Now I can get a job, drive myself, and hang out with friends a lot easier,” Desjardins said.

Lilly Stoutenburg, junior, received her license when she was 17.

Stoutenburg also took the three-week segment of driver’s training and obtained her permit for six months.

“At first, I was extremely scared when I got signed up,” Stoutenburg said. “I wasn’t going to know anyone that was going to be in my car.”

After having her permit for the six months that was necessary, Stoutenburg took three days of segment two, and then was able to take her road test.

“I practiced parallel parking everyday until it was good,” Stoutenburg said. ” The road test was extremely easy, but I got marked down only for hitting a pothole.”
