An open letter: Grandma, you’re the best a girl could have

Dear Grandma,

I know you’re not into the cheesy, lovey-dovey stuff, but I want you to know just how much you mean to me. So sit down with a nice cup of coffee and get ready to read a letter from your favorite grandchild.

I’ve spent nearly every free moment I could with you for as long as I can remember, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I love our late-night Dairy Queen runs, our weekly Kohl’s shopping trip, and our routine of watching “Chrisley Knows Best” and “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” every Sunday morning.

I’ve developed a lot of interests from you. I’m currently very fond of playing Yahtzee, which is 100 percent your fault. I mean, really, who else plays 30 games of Yahtzee in one weekend except us?

Apple cake is currently in my top 10 of desserts, and one of my favorite movies is “Burlesque,” which can only come from your intense admiration of Cher.

You’ve taught me so many things, probably more than I can count. I’ve learned basic things like how to iron my shirts (after all, I think wrinkles are your No. 1 enemy.) You were the first person to attempt to teach me how to drive, which admittedly was a bad run. But it made us laugh, so it was a success in my book.

You’ve also taught me my self-worth and made me independent. You tell me to do good in school,  get a college degree, and become a strong, independent woman who can do anything I put my mind to.

You’ve supported my dreams over the years of becoming a fashion designer, a writer, and an animator. I’ve changed my mind so many times, and each time you tell me I can do it. With you encouraging me, I feel like there’s nothing I can’t do.

I don’t think I could ever explain how grateful I am for you. You don’t get irritated when I mess up or ask a dumb question, which happens quite a bit. I do some pretty stupid things, and all you do is call me a dork and laugh it off, which I appreciate.

You’re such an amazing person in my eyes. You accept everyone as they are and never give up, even when I can tell you want to. You’re such a strong person, and I would consider myself lucky if I ended up being even half the person you are.

You don’t let people walk all over you, and you’re not afraid to express your opinion. You’re the definition of a strong woman.

We’ve had a great 15 years together so far, and I’m so excited to spend my future with you. We can see Garth Brooks together, have a girls week in Hawaii, and you’ll always have a room in my future California beach house.

And I promise, if Disney ever needs a name for a queen in it’s upcoming film, I’ll do my best as animator (hopefully) to name her Linda.

I love you, you are my sunshine.
