Mr. Jason Titsworth is collecting baseball and softball equipment to send to a friend in Dakar, Senegal. Titsworth said his friend teaches at a Western school and wants to get the American sport into his physical education program.

Dakar Academy is in need of baseball and softball equipment.

Mr. Jason Titsworth, special education teacher, is collecting old baseball or softball gloves to send to the school.

A friend of Titsworth is an athletics director at Dakar Academy and would like to incorporate baseball into his physical education classes. In order to do this, the school is looking for donations of the sports gear.

Dakar Academy is a boarding and day school in Dekar, Senegal. It was established in 1961 to primarily serve the children of Western missionaries.

Since Senegal is in northwest Africa, the children have plenty of access to soccer gear but can’t get their hands on or can’t afford the baseball equipment that they need.

Titsworth will collect donations until Friday, Jan. 27, and will ship them out Monday, Jan. 30.

“It’s an American school in Africa. They’re all children of ambassadors that work in the embassy or the kids of missionaries,” Titsworth said.

Students wishing to donate gear can drop off their donations to Titsworth in Room 115.

If he continues to get gloves after he sends out the first package, Titsworth said he will send out another package later in the year.
