Spirit days offer exciting themes for Homecoming

Homecoming is quickly approaching. Before the pep rally, football game, and dance, students and staff are able to enjoy spirit week.

Spirit week starts Monday, Oct. 3, and is five days long. Each day has been labeled a theme for the students and teachers to dress up.

This year, spirit week kick offs with Grandparents Day. This is the day to put on an outdated sweater, some reasonable shoes, and some glasses to bring out your inner grandparent.

Student Council member Cami Clarambeau, senior, said Grandparents Day was picked at the end of the 2015-16 school year by the students.

Sometimes a theme isn’t very clear, so everybody just does their own thing.

Tuesday is Tie-dye Day. This is an open ended day. Outfits can range from a simple tie-dye shirt or a full 1960s outfit.

Senior Alyssa Caudle thinks an outfit depends on a person’s view of the theme.

“Take the theme and interpret it in your own way. If it’s off, at least you tried,” Caudle said. “Sometimes a theme isn’t very clear, so everybody just does their own thing.”

Wednesday is another day to exercise a creative mind. Weather Wednesday can include rain, sunshine, tornadoes, and any kind of creative weather ideas students have.

Every year, there is at least one spirit day when each grade is prompted with a sub-theme that they should incorporate into the overall theme.

On Tourist Thursday, the freshman class is supposed to dress up as a tourist from Mexico City, sophomores are from Rio de Janeiro, juniors were assigned Cairo, and seniors are to be tourists from Paris.

Clarambeau is excited to see how other students interpret their locations and to show of her creative outfit.

“I am most excited for tourist day because I am dressing like a mime from Paris,” Clarambeau said.

Spirit week ends with a blue and gold day. It gives students the opportunity to show off their school spirit by dressing up in the school colors.

I plan on wearing all my Kearsley gear. Right now it is a Kearsley bowling shirt and football sweatpants. But if I find anything else, I will definitely add it to my ensemble.

— Mary Wheeler, sophomore

Sophomore Mary Wheeler is showing her school spirit in all school colors.

“I plan on wearing all my Kearsley gear,” Wheeler said. “Right now it is a Kearsley bowling shirt and football sweatpants. But if I find anything else, I will definitely add it to my ensemble.”

Spirit week gives students and teachers the opportunity to show their school spirit and have fun as they prepare for the rest of homecoming weekend.

“Have fun with it. Don’t compare yourself to others and their ideas,” Caudle said. “Don’t worry about being too out there with your ideas because as long as you like it, and you’re having fun with the theme, nothing else matters. Just be yourself.”
