Golf takes 8th at regional golf tournament

The golf team finished their Division 2 MHSAA regional tournament in 8th place out of 12 teams at the Pohlcat in Mt. Pleasant on Thursday, June 2.

Overall, Kearsley carded a combined score of 346 strokes.

The top three teams of the tournament finished far ahead of Kearsley. Ada Forest Hills Eastern won with a score of 312, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern came in a close second with 314, and with a score of 316 strokes, St. Johns took third.

Junior Connor Vansteenburg took 15th place individually in the tournament, carding an 81. The medalist, Ethan Leavitt of Ludington, finished with 76 strokes.

Senior Brian Sams finished with an 84 not far behind Vansteenburg but, individually, took 26th place.

The third best score for the Hornets was achieved by sophomore Jack Vollmar. He placed 33rd and shot an 87.

Senior Tyler Phipps took fourth for Kearsley, but placed 52nd overall, carding a 94. Senior Trent Kehoe, although following closely behind Phipps with a 98, finished in 63rd place out of 72 golfers.

This tournament finished the season for Kearsley golf.
